Review
I
f you happen to read the tags that we add to our reviews, you might have seen the ones for today’s review: noise rock, industrial metal, goth, synthpunk.
You can expect something a bit unusual and outside the black metal comfort zone. Now, let me introduce you to “The Great Work“, the debut album of SameStory, an antifascist blackened industrial/noise rock band from Virginia. Leave the growls and screams away, leave the overly distorted guitars away, you’re in for a very old school industrial, gothic, noisy rock. With inspirations coming directly from the 80s and early 90s, it will please the goths among all of you readers.
SameStory does not leave politics behind, however, and you’ll be presented with multiple samples, recordings of conservative politicians mainly spewing their venom. It really gets groovy as the album goes on, with tracks such as “Sackcloth/Ashes” that can be danced on in your dream gothic club. We’re not used to such music on this channel, but this is definitely a good discovery for me, and I encourage you to give it a listen and explore the unexplored parts of your music library and antifascist art.
