Review
We’ve something particularly special today, as we’re welcoming a long-time friend back to the Network, and she’s bringing with her tons of new and exciting work. Releasing in a couple of days, ‘The Yearning‘ will be what she, Manic Dream Girl, describes as highly of and we have no doubts it is beyond a daring work of Hypomanic Daydream following concepts as present in everyone’s life, such as the overwhelming weight of a collapsing reality just in front of our eyes. We will visit the whole album soon; by now, there’s more than just a preview or a spoiler: we are incredibly happy to share the video MDG arranged for the song “Dissociative“, also the starting point in the album.
Known for a visual and musical style that goes to the edge, challenging the senses with surrealism and chord-bending for pure avant-garde territory, MDG surprised us back then with ‘Image‘, and following a similar line of action, comes back stronger than ever with an even more adventurous result. Still dragging in sound from death metal and adding rock n’ roll opera features,”Dissociative” hits with a clip that, if not for MDG‘s presence signing and moving, would feel like a real fever dream, fully throwing the viewer/listener to a maelstrom of both geometric forms, 2D passages and figures in the shape of animals wandering around, and images of the real world, of key moments in our recent history that eventually go more and more warped, leading to an inevitable and catastrophic end, shaking the foundations of our sense of reality, as it is fully built around just us and our hand over the world. The apparent chaos and dissonance in both vocal and string work weave the overwhelming wave of images and abstract scenarios perfectly.
We can say, as unbiased as we could attempt to be, that this release is announcing and even more remarkable work for the album, of the kind to just fully let it carry you somewhere else, to focus fully on something that demands its time to be digested and to reflect, in opposition to today’s aggressive but shallow and emtpy pace of consumption.
We are glad to share yet another piece of transparent art for a healthy and quite needed dose of blooming ideas and feelings to the world we live in, something we couldn’t recommend any harder!
