Review
We’re happy to welcome back Alicia Cordisco to ABMN, an artist we’ve already hosted numerous times, primarily through her band Transgressive, the death/thrash powerhouse from Arizona that has been carrying the flag of anti-fascist metal since 2021. One of the most outspoken artists in the metal scene, either about her trans identity or any other topic, the ever-productive Alicia has been always balancing musically inbetween the styles of classic heavy metal and extreme metal, with a background in the power metal scene, having played in the past in well known bands like Judicator (and also we shouldn’t forget the sadly defunct now Project Roenwolfe).
And though she’s experimented with almost every genre of metal by now, something was missing. Indeed, a black metal record, which is amended now with her first solo release under her own name. The four tracks that comprise this album are each close to the 10-minute mark, making for a quite substantial listen. The style could be described as melodic black metal with a heavy metal backbone and a prog edge, featuring numerous guitar leads and solos in a classic Alicia fashion. On vocals, she’s joined on this release by Vanessa Funke, another highly productive artist that you should already be aware of through our uploads as well, while lyrically it’s one of the most personal albums for Alicia, conveying a personal story about her struggles with isolation, identity, trauma-driven despair, and purpose.
