Review

We’re used to a lot of dungeon synth sounding like music we can spend a calm evening with, relaxing, reading, drinking our wine, you get it. Then, there’s some dungeon synth like Armoured Manticore‘s debut, which can only serve as a background to a castle being demolished piece by piece by a barrage of stones hurled from hellish catapults. This anonymously fronted project from Rhode Island is on the heavy side of synth, as you might have guessed, having influences from drone and industrial metal as well, which are obvious from the super awesomely distorted main guitar (or “guitar”) sound. Around it are placed several industrial-ish sounds of metals of perhaps or strangled medieval devices clanging and destroying each other as part a the drum set, mixed with some normal epic percussion, horns and dark synths. It would be fair to say that Armoured Manticore would be the perfect soundtrack for an epic boss fight for your dnd campaign, along with crushing nazis of course, like the title of the fourth song “Trampling the Hakenkrauz” alludes to. On their Bandcamp page, Armoured Manticore point out that “There is no honor in attacking the weak“. That means that they are absolutely attacking the strong, and it sure sounds like it.
