Review
Tennessee’s Datura are a newer band but they sound much older, their sound wrapped around a main core of crushing dark hardcore, starting from classic influences like Earth Crisis and Strife before moving on to later “negative hardcore” paths that might remind of bands like Rise And Fall, but as the EP progresses the black/death element becomes more and more evident, at first with some black thrashing riffs but especially in the slower parts that never quite cross the line into dissoblack but circling it, reminding of early 00s French “orthodox” (ironic, right) sound. Of course the hardcore parts are fitting with Datura’s environmental theme too, albeit darker nowadays, for good reason. There really isn’t much more to say, other than this release sounds and feels like a kick in the face, and we are anxious to see if this band evolves into the brutal beast this EP foreshadows.
