Review: Desert Heretic – Infernalis (Full album, 2024) | Black metal

Desert Heretic has returned!

We had the honour of releasing this project’s first EP in early 2022. Now they are back with their first full-length, Infernalis“, with even more of what we loved in their first release – that is, very violent and serious black metal with a lot of melodies, traces of thrash metal (mostly on the riffs) and crust punk, and a guitar tone that could cut through bone.

The guitar work is the most impressive part here, managing to have an almost hypnotic quality that is more common in atmoblack (except in tracks that are all under five minutes). Still, the rest of the instruments and vocals are nothing to scoff at.

Paired with the vaguely mystical, part cosmic part religious horror lyrics, Infernalis could easily accompany acclaimed games like Blasphemous or SKALD: Against The Black Priory, and be as acclaimed as they were.
