Review

Detox From Humanity is a post black metal band from Germany. They recently released ‘Maussenstaub‘, their debut EP. Starting with a sample that I definitely understand as anti-psychiatry, their lyrics deal with LGBT rights, pollution, the stigmatisation of depression, substance consumption, etc. A lot of topics that many of us are used to, or have lived at some point in our lives.

So mix that with a very high-quality post/math-black metal, syncopated guitars, bouncy riffs, and a few breaks, and you get a very high-quality EP. From the first track “Masse” to the last one “Ewig Trist III“, I did not feel the time passing. Black metal can be a lullaby, as much as it can be harsh and violent, cruel and noxious. ‘Maussenstaub‘ is all of that and more. It is a complex combination of a destroyed voice, a yearning, if I may, the sometimes clear, most of the time saturated guitars, and the apparent knowledge of music composition, nice movements, harsher parts following soft ones, and three instrumental breaks. The third track is not without leaving a reference to Das Leben der Anderen, the German movie about DDR and the cold world that existed in Eastern Germany during that time. A world that is more and more present in all Western countries.

I loved that EP, it really communicates something to me and about me that I feel important. I would recommend you to have a look and give it a try, you might be surprised by what you will find in yourself listening to it!
