Review
Doomseer is a one-person project from Washington, with music that is dungeon synth falling into a doom metal vibe. The melodies and backgrounds, played with electronics and guitar, are dark, and in some places epic or triumphant, as a decent fantasy story deserves.
The beautiful thing about dungeon synth is that for entirely instrumental albums, we can, and should, dig a little deeper into the story’s details. If not by song titles or cover art, nothing is stopping our imagination from helping us.
The Doomseer album, when listened t,o could be, for example, about a journey from a dark and evil place, where after crossing the misty mountains we descend into the shattered plains of an ancient land and finally arrive at some let’s say-magical mountain where at the beginning of the first era everything began.
Although this tale doesn’t exactly contain political content, the person behind this project fully supports the anti-fascist struggle. And so let’s emphasise it once again – fascists out of our escapist travels in fantasy worlds, and in the case of the self-titled Doomseer album from the world created and described in the ‘Wheel of Time series’ by Robert Jordan. I don’t know about you, but I have decided that I will find time for this fantasy series at some point in my life.
