Review

For those of us who love melodic black metal and view music as a space for resistance, finding bands that both fit our taste and are ideologically safe -especially when they lean toward the “ritualistic”, and/or come from Europe- is often nearly impossible and deeply frustrating. That’s why we celebrate bands like Eveale, today’s upload: excelling at melody and atmosphere while raising a fist against fascism.

Eveale is a new black metal collective from parts unknown, remaining anonymous for the time being, and debuting with a double-single EP: ‘Lament of the Dryads / The Enemy‘.

The two tracks bring slightly different ambience, but are tightly connected through atmosphere and intent. The opener, “Lament of the Dryads” is a mid-paced, Swedish-influenced, mournful piece with layered tremolo-picked guitars evoking something like a feral grief. “The Enemy” follows as a more aggressive continuation: faster, sharper, and more urgent in its drumming. The production is clean, crisp, and well-balanced, and vocals come as -mid-to-high-register shrieks soaked in cavernous reverb- spectral incantations. Overall, a magnificent presentation.

For music lovers, and particularly for “melovers“, Eveale offers another space where the beauty of the genre can be embraced while steering away from sketchiness, together with other antifascist resistance like Inhertis The Void, Téleos, Nixil, Mourn The Stars

Keep the fight alive, and the meloblack bands coming!
