Review

Today, we bring one of those projects that resist categorisation by moving across multiple musical languages and genres. Excommunicant is a solo band based in Canada, and what you’ll be listening to is its second full-length release.

Although previous releases leaned more towards apocalyptic and anti-war themes, ‘Reviresco’ – released at the end of 2025 – confronts capitalism, fascism, zionism, and environmental destruction directly.

The album plays with harshness and melody, generally driven by clean doom-like vocals – and eventual, very fitting growls – to create a scenario that, rather than trying to fit any genre’s pattern, serves to deliver the emotion and the message. For that, Anddra takes bits and pieces from black metal, death metal, doom… Creating both more dense and more reflective sections.

‘Reviresco’ feels, as so many artistic creations over the past few years, like a way of processing, acknowledging, confronting, and sharing the rage, exhaustion, and need for collective support in a world that keeps requiring resilience from those who it continuously harms.

We’ll leave the rest to you and the record to speak for itself. Stay safe, and listen closely.
