Review

Sometimes you need a little chaos in your life. “Sometimes” can also mean “often” too. We don’t chaos-shame around here, the opposite if anything. Well, you little minions of chaos, here’s a not so little treat for you, in the guise of your new favourite band, Imipolex, an entity taking it’s name from the Pynchon novel Gravity’s Rainbow that had the honour of both winning a Pulitzer Prize and also not getting it as, to quote Wikipedia, “the Pulitzer Advisory Board was offended by its content, some of which was described as “‘unreadable’, ‘turgid’, ‘overwritten’, and in parts ‘obscene’“, resulting in no Prize given that year. That’s pretty fucking metal if you ask us.

But how about the music? Well, pretty fucking metal too, specifically psychedelic, weirdo black death metal that fits right at home next to other weirdoes like Krallice, Gorguts and Victory Over The Sun, with five songs filled with phrenetic blast grooving and constant shifting that would make the great primordial chaos in the center of the universe (hey Azathoth, sup!) undulate it’s myriad extremities in a grotesque mockery of what puny humans call “booty shaking”. Yep. ‘Acts of Vulgar Piety‘ is that good, pure, clean eldritch tripping brutal fun!
