Review

Not sure about mad, but some raw metallic punk is always good medicine. And while technically Fumus and Zerg (RUSH! Sorry, couldn’t resist) are not black metal bands, they definitely exude the same essence that draws people to Hellhammer or Darkthrone.

Hailing from Bekasi and Bukittinggi respectively, both these Indonesian powerhouses draw from the pool of acerbic metal punk reminiscent of Polish bands like Ohyda or Spaniards like Glam, but they also differ in that Fumus is more pure in their fury, while Zerg also lean into a death rock angle in the vein of Devil Master and Tristengrav.

Both bands are new, passionate, and complement each other amazingly, so let’s hope this is the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship, and we’ll be definitely keeping our ears and eyes open for more material from these fresh warriors of punk from a country with a long history in the genre that is sadly often overlooked by western audiences. In the meantime, this release should suffice to keep us angry towards all who oppress us.
