Review
Coming back with renovated energy and the strength of a hurricane, we are seriously glad and happy to present back to y’all dear listeners to Maridia, the ‘grim post-hardcore’ (blackened post-metallic hardcore with plenty of out-of-the-frame features if you fancy that better), from Umeå. We had them featured with their previous EP, Mouth of Ruin. Since then we only had one other single in between (which we can easily recommend any listener to go and check). Still, today we have a peek at upcoming and exciting stuff, speaking about something that needs to be talked about daily: Palestine.
‘Tumulus‘ is a song to reflect not only on the state of our world no matter whether closer or further from us individually, but about uniting in contemplation on less than a genocide before our eyes.
Maridia channels both the message and sonic work to offer us all the bridge to hold hands in grief, pouring a dying but beating still heart in solidarity with those that have nothing else to lose but their own pulse. “To bring a stone back”, is the only material reminder one could gather back from the ruins of capitalism and colonialism bombing Gaza day after day, with a ceasefire or not. The image of desperate children, among the main victims (both direct and indirect) in this genocide, is what the band brought up to picture “Tumulus“, with a visual impact levelled with the burst of rage in each minute of this song, even in the clean and calmer parts, no less a proof of our boiling blood from both impotence and wrathful sorrow. Each chord and riff transmit this complex state of feelings perfectly, as you would expect from seasoned punks. If you are a crust listener, and the rest of this mix suits your ears, what Maridia brings to the table stands tall close to the works of mythic bands like Fall of Efrafa from younger and more leaning to extreme metal projects like King Apathy (Thränenkind).
But don’t take our words into the matter until you’ve seen the videoclip!
