Obsidian Blade comes from Augsburg, Germany, and they seem to be one of those bands that have the rare gift of genre-bending without really a lot of effort.

It just goes right for the jugular with an old-school frozen black metal riff and then somehow it morphs into some raw 90s doom/death complete with stenchy bass and you also get a nice crusty d-beat somewhere in there and so on.

I guess you could call it just “black/sludge” but it would be doing Zerfal a disservice, and it just feels natural, like the band isn’t really thinking of genre, they just want the stankface and invisible oranges. It is, in other words, the shit. Isn’t language funny?

Like plain shit is bad but THE shit is awesome. But only the vague shit, not specific ones, like horse and bull varieties. Anyway, this music is awesome, really heavy shit.
