Review

As of today, ABMN has been around for over 4 years, and we’ve uploaded 786 videos to our channel featuring who knows how many artists. It’s a small fraction of the total of leftist artists in extreme music, of course, but it’s still a pretty large portfolio for a humble project such as ours… Which makes it very surprising when we have a band from a new genre, and today, Ruinous Time Blade brings us, for the first time, metalcore!

Oh, of course it’s not as simple as that; the band uses tags such as “experimental”, “death metal”, “midwest emo” and others in their Bandcamp, and deservedly so, because this is twistingly unorthodox (almost djent at times if truth be told), but the constant low tuning and breakdowns make it clear we’re dealing with the -core metal elitists hate.

It is in lyrics and message, however, where Ruinous Time Blade‘s greater merits lie, because they’re refreshingly straightforward; in their calls for revolution and solidarity, in their support for trans people and Palestine, their disgust for USian imperialism and its role as an enforcer of capitalism. None of that should be a surprise, but in an age where “antifascists” in metal silence about these subjects because of tiny amounts of clout and money, we’re very happy that it’s not just Bob Vylan and Kneecap that stand publicly, but also smaller artists with much more to lose.

Desacralize, free Palestine from the river to the sea, fuck America, death to the IOF!
