Review
So.Wa.Des is a project from Greece that fuses black metal with sludge, drone, noise and electronics. The result is genuinely great, and while the band already has several EPs on their account, today we present the latest one entitled ‘Gnathosonics‘. The EP consists of a total of three tracks. We can consider two roughly similarly long tracks as two different stories in terms of atmosphere and live studio track. For an EP, it’s quite a lot of material, so there’s a lot to dig into. 
The whole thing makes an overwhelming impression, the atmosphere is full of disturbance and the heaviness of a drone waltz, only to change immediately into riff-filled black metal with appropriately damning screaming vocals. Electronics and samples help build the atmosphere on par with distorted guitar, drums and… trumpet.
So.Wa.Des relentless drone- wall of grim and almost mechanical sound with black metal and synths begs for the label “experimental” because despite the loosely set framework between sludge and black metal, we have here a whole spectrum of slow and soulless heaviness skillfully combined with black metal. The band members obviously support our anti-fascist cause, and as we can read from their bandcamp: “Through monstrous grinding jaws, we screamed- solidarity to the oppressed!”
