Review
If you have to use one phrase to describe Tre Pistoni’s debut album then it should be “weaponized nostalgia”. Cause that’s what their raw atmospheric black metal makes you feel, sadness, anger, reminiscence, sometimes despair but others lust for vengeance and even sweetness. Everything works towards that mix of feelings, from the combination of furious epic riffing and rustic melodies, the ingenious use of a mouth harp, the choice of a primitive and raw production (a cleaner modern one would definitely not work the same), the cover and even the band’s name, taken from a three legged dog the singer met in happier times, a personal touch that sets the band aside from the boring cliche hordes leafing through dollar store satanism books to find a cool sounding demon name. No, Tre Pistoni and ‘Lasciando i pensieri umani’ reek of honesty, yearning for innocence lost and green landscapes turned grey. This is music that both breaks hearts but also, unlike more depressive bands, points to ways to mend them, towards the fight for mother earth. And we would have it no other way, not even a note played differently.
