As much as we at ABMN are consistently trying to keep spirits high among the lines of the antifascists, the truth is that we are as susceptible to the crushing pressure towards despair and hopelessness as anyone else. The veritable Holocaust against Palestinians in Gaza and the frantic attempts at the colonial Israeli and US governments at finding new smokescreens for their atrocities, leading to the abject imperialist bombing against Iran and Yemen in recent weeks, are just one some of the many, many, MANY issues facing us where the odds seem insurmountable. Today we acknowledge those feelings, not because we surrender, but to express them as a way to fight even harder… because today’s EP, ‘Never A Night So Dark‘, has been produced by our beloved RH of Tumultuous Ruin for the exact same reason.
This is a collection of tracks that were only featured in compilations, plus an unreleased track, so we are familiar with parts of it – and with TR‘s brand of raw black metal, which is becoming increasingly closer to atmoblack and even DSBM as their music evolves, as track 2, “Towards their Chains“, demonstrates triumphantly. What strikes us the most here, however, is how RH’s poetics have also grown more and more poignant; lyrics such as “Can we find joy/In our despair/In the fight we rejoice” tug at the heartstrings, and the EP’s title itself is very expressive of what it feels to be on Earth right now.
We want to finish, however, with the original quote from where it was extracted, by the amazing USian abolitionist fighter John Brown: “I cannot remember a night so dark as to have hindered the coming day“. Our day comes, and we will be the light that carries humanity through the darkness, even if that light comes from our burning bodies!
