Review

January is almost over, and it couldn’t be any better than a Friday on which we have the perfect mood booster. Many might know already about Yovel, the anonymous outspoken Greek project from Attica.

Back in December, they released their latest album with the single “Scroll. Post. Like. Die” (with a great video clip as well), which we have the immense pleasure to feature today, perfectly timed for narrating what the current events in any occidental society, in Europe many of us like Yovel are witness for every day.

The gloom of passivity clad in the guise of consumption, disconnection, apathy, and alienation; with a mocking comic-like face, ‘The Great Silence‘ strikes like a fang straight to the heart in the shape of a really conventional/old-school black metal with clean production, melodic parts and resting slower bridges to complete songs and a proportionally consistent combination of clean voice dragging from raised fist rioting spirit to shrieking abysmal growling, not without a needed dose of dubbed speeches and recorded voice passages closing the flavour of the theme in the album.

A monolithic work devoted to start burning the pillars of modern-day’s fast living under perpetual exploitation, the crushing feeling of worthlessness as we reveal ourselves as less useful to capitalism. It will surely leave you craving more since it’s not really long, for it is intense as hell on the other hand, as it demands each ode, each verse carved with a notorious dedication to the detail for lengthy anthems, leaving us no other but anthems for an intended exercise of heavy introspection as one could naturally expect over plain sonic aggression as per usual in our beloved usual extreme metal circles (right?).

This is a solid conceptual album, to reflect on our day-by-day interaction with technology, with other human beings at work and in the streets, about our history, and where to go next for a better tomorrow will inevitably come whether fascists like it or not.
