Review
This is Haintgrove‘s first single off the upcoming debut album ‘Starless Passage’. Black metal with death influences, some raw influences in the screams, some hints of meloblack, and a neat composition. “Starless Passage” is a song about chattel slavery and the stories of the enslaved Africans brought overseas to endure forced labour in America. Rather than disclosing a plain story, the lyrics focus on the emotions and perception of the main character. This individual feels the salted water, hears the noise of the shore, smells the dreadful fragrance of the boats.
As Haintgrove states: The Land Remembers. This text, accompanied by a running bassline, the melodic guitars and the dialogue between the two voices, gives this first track a very good impression. Let’s see how it integrates with the full album, but this could be a very good first release for Haintgrove.
