Review

Pâenil Era is a new post-black metal one-man band from Romania that introduced itself last year with its very impressive debut album ‘Deviere‘, showing an already advanced mix of atmospheric black metal with post-metal and prog influences. Returning quickly this year with a sophomore album, the musician behind Pâenil Era certainly seems eager to establish himself in the post-black metal scene, and we can safely say that ‘Idle Cage‘ is an album that will succeed in this. Showing advancement in sound, a really clean and powerful mix and performance and a stronger emphasis on atmospheric and rhythmical elements that sometimes have hints of modern progressive metal (and interestingly some folk in the last song “The Turn“), Pâenil Era weaves in ‘Idle Cage‘ a story in four lengthy tracks with themes of evasion, freedom and struggle, the desire to escape, and all the challenges that come with it. Real quality work from a musician that clearly shows ambition and seriousness in what he does. We’ll be very interested for sure in what he does in the future.
