Review
Kakorrhaph is a one-person project from so-called Australia that plays depressive and atmospheric black metal. The material was created over the course of six years and is a deeply personal expression of experiences of loneliness in its many forms. The project’s name alludes to this in a way, as “kakorrhaphiophobia” in Greek means the fear of failure—an irrational and blood-curdling dread of defeat. And the word “kakorrhap
hia” refers to a kind of underhanded and cunning plan directed against someone.
With that in mind, the album ‘Chasing Shadows’ truly captures those emotions and fears. In fact, the lyrics are entirely focused on that. It’s no wonder, then, that the album took so long to create—it’s deeply personal, and well crafted; the songs are complex, and the shifts in tempo and mood of the riffs correspond to the lyrical content—ranging from melancholic clean riffs and vocals to fast-paced guitar and rhythm section parts.
The person behind this project has already been featured here with another project—“Wreaker”—a feminist and anti-capitalist grindcore band.
