Review

Straight from the thriving Berlin scene, we present to you the fresh black punk band Kryk. Last year, they released their first album called ‘Крик‘, which in Russian means scream. And the vocal scream is most definitely good on that album, we have a damning scream, as well as some cool shrieks and even a one “ough!”. What more could you want? Maybe, for example, furious guitar riffs, which, in addition to the punchy punk sound and black metal atmosphere, know how to slow down and even dabble with dissonant sounds. And maybe even let these riffs sharpen the blade of the guillotine waiting for the rich and powerful! The rhythm section also blasts and rumbles mercilessly, creating the perfect base for the guitar’s sonic richness. There are also occasional samples and electronics, but it’s literally a pinch in the cauldron full of punk and black metal. The recipe for dark punk is kind of familiar, but in the case of Kryk, the execution is extremely modern in sound, and you can hear that it was created now.

If you’re from the Berlin area, it’s worth checking out the band’s Bandcamp and catching some of their shows, plus we recommend following the independent label Sonic Raider Records.

And for even more listening pleasure, we remind you that exactly 80 years ago today, fascist dictator Benito Mussolini literally saw his world stand on its head.
