Review

We’re honoured to be part of this premiere in collaboration with Hypnotic Dirge Records, and what better way to celebrate the end of the work week with some new depressive black metal? Dysthymia are back with their sophomore album ‘The Morning Darkness‘, and we are here for it at AMN!

Right from the start, Dysthymia provides us with a slow and quiet build-up before launching into emotional and melancholic melodies; the clean vocals thrown into the mix are such an effective contrast to the shrieks, creating a sense of distance and longing that adds to the sorrowful atmosphere. The track “We Can Never Go Back” is a true highlight that embodies the full spirit of the album, and from here to the end, these vocals merely add to the growing sense of isolation as the album progresses.

The different layers feel like there’s so much to unpack here, yet at the same time it really does feel hard to put into words the feelings it evokes; the growth since their self-titled debut is remarkable.
