What has only been two years for the world, it has been the reality of many Palestinians for their whole lives; the Israeli occupation and ethnic cleansing, i.e genocide. While the rest of the world has finally caught up to the many horrific tragedies that happen on a daily basis for Palestinians, the world over still hasn’t done much for them—or anyone suffering under oppressive, colonising regimes such as those in the Congo, United States, Russia, etc.— the Palestinians who refuse to give up. This isn’t about how brave they are or how they are facing such atrocities while still holding on to hope. No, instead, this is about how the world, as a whole, continues to fail all oppressed peoples that suffer under the cold, cruel hand of capitalism, all for a little comfort and the ability to sleep well at night.
Yes, for two years we have watched every single day children be burned alive, infants born dead, reporters killed for covering the destruction and naming it for what it is, a genocide. For two years, we have sat down and watched this happen through our phones. In these two years, we have seen different governments come and go. For two years, we continued to live and move as if these things were not happening, even though we are more than aware. And finally, these two years we have witnessed as liberalism has failed everyone and fascist regimes have risen and taken their place, putting all these humans, who deserve to live and whose only crime is not being of the “right ethnicity”, even more at risk.
This isn’t to say, though, that there aren’t good people doing amazing and continually trying to help and end this genocide. But they are only a small minority and can only do so much. Governments swear they care and want to help, but they continue to invest in companies that build weapons to kill Palestinians. Companies claim to care, but they often do the exact same thing. Do you all remember that scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? If not, or if you’re unsure, let us help you. There is a part where Finn and Rose leave for a planet to find a master locksmith, and on that planet, they arrive at a casino where they run into Benicio Del Toro’s character, and he breaks their world down about how the people they get their weapons from sell to the First Order as well.
We bring these two images up because this is what we’re facing today in 2025. A world where every corporation, every single transaction we do, puts all of us in complicity. We’re not demanding everyone stop purchasing things, but rather invite you to think about your purchases and consider where that money is going. A prime example right now is Spotify. More and more artists are abandoning the platform as it not only ramps up IA slop usage but it also invests in security and weapons manufacturing companies that spy on and kill Palestinians, and will be used against anyone opposing their governments or statuses. Yes, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, but we need to be smarter about what we’re buying and who we’re buying from.
Please ask yourself, what are you doing to reduce harm in the world? If we actually start considering this question, our own actions and how they affect other people -not just the closest to us, but around the world- maybe then we can finally start seeing justice and peace.
Palestinians need us to act on our words, not just by donating to good causes and boycotting the enablers, but also by striking, by picketing and blockading Israeli companies and shipments, and other things that we can’t say openly because of legal issues (but you can certainly imagine). Workers with their hands in their pockets will make the bosses starve, and when they do, they will have to listen. How many times in these last two years have we seen a call for an international day of boycotts, successful or not? But, these companies see one day as just that, a day. So, yes, we mean literally STOP, because we also know that voting hardly works, for as Lucy Parsons said, “never be deceived that the rich will let you vote away their wealth.”
This is simply something we should be reflecting on and considering: all we have left is community, and in the lack of it, self-involvement. So, use that self-involved-ness to change your behaviour and actions for the better. We won’t be free until all of us are free, from every river to every sea. We don’t know how everything will look in a year, let alone two, but we hope that October 7 will instead be a day of somber remembrance of how many Palestinians have been killed since 1948 and how October 7, 2023 was the turning point that lead to their freedom and ability to reclaim not just their homes in Gaza, to the liberation of ALL of Palestine, their land returned…and the Zionist propaganda and lobbying machine, the Israeli war machine and the Zionist civilian activists that enabled this and fanned the flames punished. And not just in Palestine but for everyone wanting land back, from North America to the far East, wherever colonialism has harmed humans and stolen from them, with reparations.
P.S. ABMN acknowledges some of the other struggles taking place around the world, such as in Myanmar and Kashmir. History has proven that the fight for autonomy and freedom cannot be isolated to one cause. Doing so would risk alienating those with struggles of their own. However, despite the commonality in issues, there was no room to speak about them in detail within this particular statement. We believe there is no room for selective compassion in the fight for freedom, and we hope to comment on other plights around the world soon. Till then, ABMN remains steadfast in our support to marginalised communities and people(s) around the world.
