Review

Sometimes, antifascist black metal is about deconstructing tropes and introducing new elements and aesthetics, and other times it’s about harnessing the strongest and most blunt force imaginable and aiming it as a weapon. In case you didn’t already guess so with the graphic cover that shows the fate that unrepentant nazis should get, Guerrilla Warnoise, a duo from Athens, Greece, offer three songs of the latter in the style of war metal.

This brief demo features brutal drums blasting their way through sudden tempo changes, primitive guitar playing and cavernous, punishing vocals. It’s a familiar sound, and although there is some room for improvement, the band gets the basics of it fine, so that it is primarily about a violent and visceral response rather than technicalities. This is the first recording of the band after all, and we hope to see more in the future.
