Review

We’re a little under halfway through the year (a terrifying thought, we know) with unlimited new releases to come, yet already Oculi Melancholiarum‘s newest release, Antheraea, is sure to be a highlight of the year.

Victoria Camila Hazemaze is a reference in the blackgaze scene, and Antheraea is no exception, leaning heavily into the atmospheric and dream-like side – almost leaning into the ethereal doom territory at times –and the result is this masterpiece of an album. There’s a haziness to it that means it never feels too heavy, even while making sure to remind you of its black metal aspects too; the closing track, “Saturnia“, is the perfect accumulation of all the different aspects of this album into a single song, with Victoria’s closing vocals leaving us with a ghostly and haunting conclusion.

We absolutely cannot say how much we love this album enough, so all that’s left is to check it out yourself!
