Review

Today is Premiere day! Burnt Lodge, which we had already reviewed in 2024 and Veytik, from Olympia, Washington, have trusted us for the premiere of their split, and it is excellent!

From the first seconds, the very recognisable sound of Burnt Lodge lays the ground for the split. It keeps its musicality, distinct voice and overall its essence. Each side of the split features the compositions of one artist, in addition to a shared track, named after the split.
Veytik is not left behind, a black metal band whose themes revolve around mythology and great victories

The second track, ‘Anchors Plunged Off Helluland’, shared between both artists is a complex mix of both styles, way closer to traditional black metal compared to what Burnt Lodge has used us to, but its sound is still there, especially in the instrumental parts. This joint composition is truly amazing and shines over the whole split.

Veytik has built its side of the split like a mini album, with continuity in the songs. They are separated with an instrumental intro and an instrumental track as the third one, but they really feel like one long song of 15 minutes. Their sound feels like late 90s, early 2000s black metal. It feels like a hurricane hitting you relentlessly, while keeping some melody that drags the song from the beginning to the end, playing nicely on the discordance to bring a feeling of comfort.

All in all, this split is excellent, shows the maturity of both bands, each side complements the other beautifully, making it a masterpiece and a split to come back to regularly!
