Review
Imagine an OST to one’s transcendence to some deep spiritual plane. A caring spectral hand lifts you and guides you through some primordial deep space soundscape.
Guitarist Jayant Makhan and Joost Vervoort from Terzij der Horde (an openly Antifascist, Anticapitalist, Anti AI, black Metal project featured in our network before) join forces to formulate such a musical narration.
‘Twilight Altar’ from Sunlight Altar is a sacramental, almost hymnic collection of songs, ritualistically arranged and woven into a plexus of hypnotic acoustic guitar melodies, under a stratum of ethereal and meditative vocals, leading you into a weightless trance. Bells, rings and accordion bellows complete the tapestry of mournful intimacy that leaves you afloat in a mellifluous expanse, converging softly yet palpably around you.
Lyrics that reverberate like a time-lost mantra of the last words of a sacrosanct poet, and timely percussions operating like liturgical anchors.
The EP feels like an instinctive study on the boundaries of Folk music and the spacious distances it occupies, delivered through modern and freeform sensibilities. Emotive yet decisive, aloof yet present, cosmic yet human. Great to have this beautiful album featured in our network.
